Fire Technology trains students on the necessary qualifications and requirements to become a Firefighter. Firefighters control and extinguish fires or respond to emergency situations where life, property, or the environment is at risk. Students learn the duties a firefighter performs such as fire prevention, emergency medical service, hazardous material response, search and rescue, and disaster assistance. Focus is on a variety of fire service related subjects, including a history of fire service, fire department organizations, fire behavior, firefighting tactics and strategies, hazardous materials, fire safety, tools and equipment, fire prevention, fire protection systems, codes and standards, fire service occupations, and related subjects. This class focuses on principles of fire behavior and mitigation and extinguishment. Students earn an honor cord at graduation for successfully completing all Fire Science coursework (with a B- or better in each course).
Fire Technology I

Fire Technology II
This course continues to discuss the philosophy and history of fire protection. In addition, the course will cover the selection process for firefighters and career opportunities in fire protection and related fields. Topics include: fire loss analysis, fire service structure, laws and regulations affecting the fire service, and organizational culture. Other topics to be covered include: function of the public and private fire protection services and systems, basic fire chemistry, and fire strategy and tactics. Students will be required to participate in hands on drills to become familiar with fire fighting tools, tactics, and strategies as well as the core values of the class (communication, pride, mind, body and craft) and how these values will construct or rebuild am awareness of the value of life.
