0866 ROP Athletic Training (Offered grades 10-12)
This course will provide an introduction into Athletic Training. This year long class will cover athletic training (the care and prevention of athletic injuries), 1st aid, CPR, taping and wrapping techniques. Also covered is personal fitness; this information can be used for self-improvement and knowledge, and introduction into rehabilitation. The goal of this course is to provide you with the foundational information to pursue a profession and the hands on experience to render confidence. By the end of the course, you will know what it takes- in knowledge, skills and work schedule to make it as a Certified Athletic Trainer. Students earn an honor cord at graduation for successfully completing all coursework (with a B- or better in each course).
0867 ROP Advanced Athletic Training (Offered grades 11-12)
Students enrolled in Advanced Athletic Training provide assistance to athletes in the prevention of athletic injuries; tape and wrap athletes to prevent injuries or re-injury. They must be available to work after school athletic events and practices. They must be available to start class the 3rd week in August for fall sports, some holidays and Saturdays. Students will be required to work: Fall Sports-2 events/practices a week, not plus Friday night Football games. Winter & Spring Sports-2 events per week. Students must have prior approval by
0870 ROP Therapeutic Rehabilitation
The Therapeutic Exercise and Rehabilitation course challenges students to recognize the physiological and bio-mechanical factors involved in orthopedic and athletic injuries, how to establish a proper exercise/rehabilitation program to address such injuries, and understand the importance of record keeping and documentation ensuring all aspects of injuries are addressed. Students have opportunities to observe treatment in the field at sports events, sitting with the players on the bench, and assisting the Physical Therapist on hand as injuries occur. Students have practice sessions in the classroom, being able to explain the physiology of an injury and the best methods for treatment. Instruction also include lectures, demonstration labs, written exams, and hands-on proficiencies.
*Participants that successfully complete the academy earn an honor cord upon graduation.
